When the date is romantic, make sure the setting is too. If you want to make things more romantic, you could look at accessories that will add to the feeling. Somehow candles and flowers are so much a part of romance.
The diffused, sparkling orange light of the candle excites and instantly relaxes ones mood. One way that you can enhance the overall effect of these two things is to use the type of candles that have a fragrance and various colors that will appeal to the senses. Even though all of these things are extremely alluring, they can also be very expensive specifically when you use them on a regular basis. The best way to get around this problem is to make some fragrant, colorful candles on your own.
Take some old candles and place them in a container; place this in another larger container that has water in it and put this apparatus on a fire. The water will boil and melt the wax nevertheless do not put the vessel containing the wax directly on the fire as this may prove to be hazardous. Of course, you might not have any old candles around to melt but you could always buy candles in bulk from the store and get them at a bargain price.
You can choose any kind of mould you want - get them ready while the wax is melting. Aluminum moulds are the best even though they turn hot as you pour hot wax in them. Use anything from paper cups to glasses to get the designs and shapes you want.
Preparing the wick can easily be done by using an older candle if possible or be carried out using white cotton straw. Sufficient wax must be rubbed on the straw so that it is taut and thus easier for inserting into the melted, wax in the mould. The color should be added very slowly to the wax so that you can stop just as soon as the desired shade is achieved. It's time now to pour the colored, melted hot wax into the moulds after which you insert the wick in the center and push in till it goes to the end.
In the event that you want your candles to consist of different layers of colors, then you are going to need to melt the wax in some different containers and then add all of the appropriate colors to each of the lots. Make absolutely sure that the mould that you have selected to use for the multicolored candles is tall and allows all of the layers to show, the way that you pour all of the different colors is very important as well. The layers have to be poured in one by one and you have to wait while each one cools and hardens. If you don't allow the prior color to cool odd, all of the colors are going to mix and then you are going to be left with one lump that is murky colored.
Fragrant candles need oil-based fragrance added to the melted wax. Fragrance must be added after the color as the last step, as any additional stirring and heating can cause loss of fragrance. Take your pick of fragrance oils from rose or jasmine to musk, tea tree or lemon grass - you'll find you have a choice of oils at a store near you. After the color, fragrance and wick have been added, place the mould in the freezer to allow the candle to come out easily; it is as easy as that!
